CHAPTER III: A PLEASANT SHOCK
As days rolled over, I just didn’t realize how quickly time had passed by. My preliminary examination started and I decided to get a bit serious with my studies, but destiny had something else in store for me.
I was getting ready for my class exam, doing the last minute revision, when I got a call from another good friend of mine. She was our common friend.
“Hello!”
“Hello! Say what happened?”
“Nothing. Just wanted to ask you a question.”
“Question? Which question?” I asked confusingly.
“I wanted to ask you if you love that girl?”
“Girl? Which girl are you talking about?”
Though I knew what she was talking about; still I pretended as if I didn’t know anything.
“Oh you very well know whom I am talking about. I want your answer in the class!”
She said and just disconnected the phone.
I was stunned for a moment and didn’t know how to respond. I started blushing and borrowed time to answer this question.
I started thinking over it. Studies took a back seat. I was in a dilemma of thoughts. To say or not to say ‘Yes’ was the question. We always enjoyed each other’s company but that was all. Never did anyone of us realize that it was love. It’s true that love comes in tricky ways; “Sometimes we think that we are in love not knowing we are just friends, but sometimes we stick so much to friendship that we don’t realize that we are in love.” The latter part aptly described my situation. Keeping all this aside I just closed my eyes and started thinking. The first picture that came to my mind was of that girl. I got my answer. I realized that I was in love. Till then love was just a fantasy for me which existed in books and movies.
I decided to give a positive reply but then a second thought came to my mind, “Was that true or was it a prank played by my friend?”
Emotions were at its peak. My body didn’t know how to react. My mind was in a state of confusion. I was happy, excited but at the same time afraid of the arising situation.
“How will she react? Will she say Yes? What if she says No? Will it hamper our friendship?” Questions were tremendous but none had any answer.
With all this confusion in mind, I left for my exam. The short distance from my home to class looked like a thousands of kilometres for me. Mind filled with thoughts and heart filled with emotions.
